Mary's classes are intelligently sequenced yet playful - she always strives to help people find that perfect balance of grace & strength on and off the mat. Her style is both nurturing and affirming so that your practice can become a source of healing and personal growth.
Mary began practicing yoga in 2004 after the birth of her 1st son. She quickly realized that yoga was just what she needed to relieve her postpartum depression. Mary found that women are lead to believe motherhood is the happiest time of one's life, but privately moms are exhausted, overwhelmed and often soon become miserable after giving birth. As a new mother totally overwhelmed by devastating depression, yoga helped her face her fears and insecurities and recognize her true potential as a woman. She found that in taking the time to nurture herself, everyone benefits. This journey has inspired her to learn more so as to be able to empower others through their own yoga practice.
In 2007, she began an apprenticeship with Gina Caputo and in 2009 completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher Training at Kansas Siddhi Yoga, with the inaugural class! In 2005, she also completed a teacher training with Max Strom & Jamie Elmer. She has been honored to study with other great teachers who have made their way to Kansas City over the years like Hala Khouri, Kim Schwartz, Bryan Kest and Doug Swenson. Mary is also a certified teacher through Personal Best Pilates in Advanced Mat and Props.
Mary was born in Maryville, MO and spent the majority of her youth as a farm girl northwest Missouri. Eventually she moved to the "big city" for college where she met her husband Richard. They currently reside in Lee's Summit with their two amazing sons Caleb & Jack, and one sassy cat named George who completes their tribe.
