Guru Purnima: A Full-Moon Celebration Of Teachers
Friday / July 18 / 7:00 pm / Any Love Donation Is Appreciated
The full moon day in July (18th) brings the celebration of Guru Purnima, a special time to honor our teachers. "Guru" literally means "remover of darkness" and so we take this day to celebrate those whose presences emanate love, light and divinity and whose teachings transform the darkness within us. It is a time to take fresh resolves to tread the path of yoga and renew our intentions and aspirations.
Traditionally, Guru Purnima is a day to celebrate the great Sage and teacher, Vyasa, who is honored for bringing immeasurable wisdom to the world by compiling the Vedas (traditional Indian scriptures), the Mahabarata and the Puranas, which are a reader-friendly collection of stories and parables written specifically so that the common people could also benefit from the knowledge of the Vedas. Vyasa was a great guru who believed that learning should be accessible to absolutely anyone.
Our Guru Purnima celebration will include a puja (an offering of love, thanks and praise), meditation, discussion and chanting in celebration of our personal teachers and the great universal teachers. Please bring a photo, statue, or other reminder of your teacher and anything you might like to contribute to the teacher altar we'll create together. This might be fruit, flowers, a candle, incense, etc.
Consider joining us for the Yin/Yang class preceeding our celebration! (5:30 - 6:45pm)
